Furniture Finishing & Restoration
Bring your worn but cherished furniture back to life, and learn how to obtain a professional finish. Bring the article you want to restore to your first class so it can be evaluated and the materials needed will be determined. The first session is from 9.30am-12noon. The following sessions are from 9.30am-4pm. We have no storage space available, but you can learn just as well on a small part, such as a drawer or a chair.

Oamaru Limestone Sculpture and Design
This is an introductory course to Oamaru Limestone Sculpture and Design. Begin by planning a design to suit the block of stone you are working with. Having chosen the concept, carving can commence showing texture, form, unity, space, etc. Come along and surprise yourself. A materials cost and tool hire is payable to the tutor at the beginning of the course. This course is held outside under shelter so war warm clothing, and remember to bring your lunch.

Upholstery
This is a worthwhile, enjoyable opportunity for you to learn basic upholstery on your own project – start with a chair or a stool. You’ll need an upholsterer’s hammer (or hand staple gun) but most other tools needed are provided, and supplies can be obtained from your tutor. Bring your article to the first class so it can be evaluated and the materials needed determined. The first session is 9.30-12noon. The following sessions are 9.30am-4pm every second Saturday. Sorry, we have no storage space.

Woodturning
Discover the creative joys of spindle and face plate turning. If you have never used a lathe before and would like to express your creative talents through woodturning, then here is your opportunity. You will be offered individual tuition at your own level whether you are a complete beginner or have some experience. You will be advised on the first night what timbers to select for the various projects throughout the course. Bowl blanks and other timber can be purchased from your tutor. We have one lathe per class member, so the class size is limited to 10. All the tools are supplied.

Woodwork & Furniture Making
With the guidance of your tutor, you design and make the furniture that you need for your home. Choose which night you would like to come, bring an idea of what you would like to make and we will advise on the materials you need to bring. We provide the facilities including a knowledgeable tutor. Bulk machining of timber for home based projects not permitted. Course Fee: $ 55

Woodwork for Beginners
If you have never made anything from timber before, this course is for you. Our aim is to take you from where you are at with a guided programme. We will introduce you to many skills to be learnt in the workshop, including instruction on safe use of machinery and workshop safety. This course will equip you to participate in our Woodwork & Furniture Making courses. On completion of your projects you can feel justifiably proud of your achievements.
This course is run concurrently with Woodwork & Furniture Making. There is a maximum of 5 Beginners students in each class. Course Fee: $ 70
