Best Years - Interactive Forum
Retiring or retired? These are the "Best Years" so why not enjoy them. Here's an opportunity to meet up with a group of people looking to expand their horizons through regular interaction with new ideas, experiences and fellowship.
We have talks from experts on a wide variety of topics. We go on occasional trips to explore our city and further afield. Members can have an input into the content of the programme. There are some additional costs if we travel. You will receive a programme every term. You choose what you want to attend.
Meetings are every second Wednesday 9:30 to 11:30 in the St David's lounge on the corner of Main and Rainforth Streets.

Bridge for Beginners (NEW)
Learn to play bridge in the comfort of the Palmerston North Bridge Club rooms (cnr Cook and Cuba Streets) with a New Zealand representative player. Bridge is an absorbing card game, which is played worldwide by people of all ages. It is “gym for the brain”, improving concentration, memory and problem solving ability. It can be played socially or competitively and gives you the opportunity to meet a wide range of interesting people. Come and join us and see if this is the game for you.

Fly Fishing for Beginners
Learn the art of flyfishing to catch trout in the Manawatu region. You will learn how to flycast, tie knots, what trout eat, and how to represent that food. You will be shown two successful techniques to catch fish and put them to practice on the river. Two half day weekend field trips will be held and the dates finalised at the class. The course does not cover the purchase of a fishing licence or flies. Your tutor will provide rods and reels if you don't have them. Maximum of 10 per class, so be in quick! Course Fee: $ 70

Greek Dancing I
Kick your heels up and learn the famous Zorba dance and many other folk dances from the various regions of Greece. Enjoy a fun, social activity for which you don't need a partner. Wear comfortable clothing and smooth soled shoes. Course Fee: $40

Greek Dancing II
If you missed Greek Dancing I, don't miss number II - you'll catch up, just work a little harder. Extend your repertoire of Greek folk dances, learn new steps and add more challenging moves. Introduction to Tai Chi forms and self defence
Come and learn ths highly regarded system of exercises that promotes balance, grace, strength and confidence. Tai Chi (ultimate force) is a gentle and effective "internal" martial art for all ages and abilities.

Kapiti Island
Spring is the ideal time (September) - the weather is fairly settled and bird activity peaks. Make your own way to Paraparaumu Beach once the trip is confirmed; we arrange the permit from the Department of Conservation and the boat charter, and provide an expert guide for the day. Expect to see and hear lots of tuis, kakariki, saddlebacks, robins, kakas and wekas. Enjoy a stroll on the easy walking track around the landing or you can climb to the top of the hill. Register by completing an enrolment form (no fee at this stage) showing the number of people in your group. Cost is $105, payable when you book for a firmly scheduled trip. If your trip should be cancelled due to bad weather, a new date will be offered. If this doesn't suit, there is a $95 refund.

Kayaking I
Get ready for summer. Learn how to be safe, have fun and relax in a kayak in flat water. Try tipping out, rescues, paddle strokes. Bring togs, towel and a polyprop top (no cotton), maybe a wetsuit if you feel the cold - you will be getting wet.
Kayaks and equipment provided or if you prefer bring your own. Course Fee: $80

Kayaking II
Moving on from Kayaking 1. In the pool we will have a go at the "eskimo roll."
In the river we will learn about moving water currents, edging your boat, and reading the river.

Rock Climbing
Learn Rock Climbing, Abseiling and Bouldering on an indoor wall and meet other people, develop new skills and take some risks. Your self-confidence will soar! Wear comfortable clothing, sports shoes and bring plenty of water and food. Course Fee: $45

Safety and Self Defence for Women
Self defence is an important skill you need to learn in today's society where anyone, anywhere can suddenly become a victim. Women of all ages can learn simple and effective skills to protect themselves, and together we'll make the community a safer place for you and your family.

Unicycling - A new experience (NEW)
Get up and active on One Wheel. Unicycling is a fun and different way to ride to school or work, to exercise, build balance and coordination, and get lots of attention from friends and family. You will learn how to ride, try different styles of riding (trials, freestyle, mountain unicycling) and get a taste for the almost unlimited fun you can have with only half a bike. There are 5 unicylces available for hire at $5 per session or buy your own from www.unicycles.co.nz. Course Fee: $ 45

Yoga I
An introduction to Yoga, originally a path to spiritual development but now valued as a vehicle for inner peace and harmony, and a gentle approach to fitness and physical well-being. Suitable for everyone – age and gender have no bearing on the many ways both mind and body benefit. Enrol for either one or two nights a week. Bring a mat for floor exercises and wear loose comfortable clothing. Our classes are not suitable for pregnant women. Course Fee: $ 45
